New local Website – Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness
Atlas of Life in the Coastal Wilderness website.
Have a look – http://www.alcw.org.au/
The launch is today, Saturday 26th, at 2:30PM at Auswide, Cabarita Place,
Merimbula
And to me it’s not just a great website lauch…it’s a real model for tech practice for our area…partnering with Metro groups (in Libby’s case, no
less an august body than the CSIRO Atlas of Living Australia team).
I understand it’s been a lot of work, particularly for Libby, but I think
one of the secrets of her success is her ability to get like-minded people
in the area to collaborate with her.
I think it’s very encouraging – we really can get daunting web and tech
projects up from our regional idyll.
For the techs…it’s a wordpress site, a modified Twenty Eleven theme
(using Artisteer), backing on to the CSIRO Biological Data Recording
System, which is, I gather, is an open source PHP/Postgres/PostGIS based
solution. More here<http://www.ala.org.au/tools-services/citizen-science/cs-get-involved/> on the CSIRO bit.
I understand that the CSIRO ALA team may consider the work carried out with the ALCW team as a possible template for rollout to other areas across Australia.
Well done to all involved.
